Abstract
The Pinus Koraiensis is known as one of the most important natural resources frequently used as a traditional medicine. It`s effects have been reported in anti-aging, antibacterial and recovering from fatigue. In particular, polyphenols in the plant prevent and alleviate the diseases due to eliminating oxygen free radicals which cause aging and cancer. In this experiment, Pinus Koraiensis (especially, pine koraiensis leaf (PL) and pine nut shell (PS)) was extracted using solvents and the total amount of polyphenols were ordered of methanol > ethanol > n-hexane. The antioxidant activities, antimicrobial and antifungal activities were investigated in chitosan (Cs), the extracts of PL and PS, and various mixing combinations of three materials. In the antioxidant activities, the results of DPPH-radical scavenging activities and SOD-like activities indicated that methanol extract had the highest activities. The addition of Cs in the extracts of PL and PS improved the antioxidant activities. Antibacterial activity was confirmed in gram (+) and 4 types of gram (-) such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli in addition of 0.45 ml PL and PC. In the paper disc method, the addition of Cs in the extracts of PL and PS also improved the anti-bacterial activity. Especially, the highest antibacterial activities showed in the Bacillus cereus.
